Data controller
VoltRoute is a web service operated by Dario Ciannavei, based in Italy.
Contact email: info@voltroute.it
What data we collect
VoltRoute collects only the bare minimum needed to provide the service:
- Automatic navigation data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, access times, collected automatically by the Aruba web server
- Voluntarily entered data: starting city and destination for trip planning
- Local preferences: vehicle type and battery level, saved only in your browser (localStorage) and never sent to our servers
- Google Maps data: place and route searches are processed through the Google Maps API
We do not collect names, emails, passwords, or payment data.
How we use the data
- Calculate routes and find charging stations along the way
- Show hotels, restaurants, and points of interest near the destination
- Provide weather forecasts for the journey
- Improve the service through anonymous aggregated statistics
We do not use data for commercial profiling, behavioural advertising, or transfer to third parties.
Third-party services
VoltRoute integrates third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:
- Google Maps Platform, maps, routes, points of interest. Google privacy
- Open-Meteo, weather forecasts. Open-Meteo terms
- Anthropic Claude AI, football match suggestions. The only data sent is cities and dates, no personal data. Anthropic privacy
- Booking.com, affiliate links for hotels. When you click a Booking.com link, their privacy policy applies
- GetYourGuide, affiliate links for experiences. GetYourGuide privacy
Cookies and local storage
VoltRoute uses:
- localStorage (browser only): saves vehicle preferences, accumulated CO₂, and settings. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted
- Technical session cookies: required for the site to work correctly, they do not require consent under the GDPR
- Google Maps cookies: managed by Google for map functionality
We do not use profiling or advertising tracking cookies.
Tesla integration (coming soon)
VoltRoute is developing an integration with the Tesla Fleet API to allow users to connect their car and receive real-time battery data, as well as send routes to the in-car navigator.
- The connection will always be voluntary and will require explicit authentication via a Tesla account
- Accessible data will be limited to: battery level, estimated range, position, efficiency
- No physical control of the car (doors, climate, driving) will ever be requested
- The access token can be revoked at any time from the official Tesla app
- Vehicle data will not be transferred to third parties or used for profiling

Under EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), you have the right to:
- Access: find out what data we process about you
- Rectification: correct inaccurate data
- Erasure: request deletion of your data
- Portability: receive your data in a readable format
- Objection: object to the processing

Data retention
Web server logs (automatic navigation data) are kept for a maximum of 30 days for security purposes, then automatically deleted by Aruba.
We do not maintain any user database or search history.
Security
VoltRoute adopts the following security measures:
- Encrypted HTTPS connection (SSL certificate)
- API keys stored only on the server, never exposed to the browser
- No database containing users' personal data
